Comment | | MV had traveled up by bus and was already enjoying a drink with Flo and Mick when Mengo turned up. Only one had cycled all the way but then PV had taken the long way round up Hale Road and had not attempted Alma Hill. GM turned up by car and tried the new Guinness can dispense and declared it tasted like, well, Guinness. The rest of us were just a little disappointed with the beers tried, the Burton Bridge straight from the cask was a little tired and the Fastcask now applied to the Breakspear’s rendered it tasteless.

Comment | | Despite the best efforts of the fit barmaid, three of the four Bishop Sumner’s were handed back as undrinkable. They were swapped for the William Cobbett, which at least was not cloudy. Still as the owners do not drink beer it is not surprising there is little quality control on the output and the product is invariably crap.

KOC, who had been on duty at the Club in the afternoon, gave the next pub a miss and headed straight up the GG.

Comment | | The outside of the pub is being renovated. The inside also needs a little TLC as the decor is now looking rather tired. Turns out they will be holding another beer festival this August Bank Holiday - it remains to be seen if JP has learnt from the mistakes of the last attempt and it is worth going to.
