Ray is clearly keen on promoting his pub through beer festivals and Mengo are always happy to support such ambitions, particularly in the real ale desert commonly known as Aldershot. So, nearly a full turnout from Mengo, which was supplemented by the boys from Liphook. Jem and Satan were here because the North Hants Beer Festival at Overton had failed to materialise this year.
Learning from the first festival, Ray had produced a beer list this time. He had also kept it simple with all the nine beers, which varied from the 3.6% ABV Mild to the 6.0% ABV Belgium Triple style, at £3.20 a pint.
The Elgood's Black Dog provided a flavoursome start and the Thornbridge Jaipur a highly anticipated and fully justified Bollywood finish. In between the Roosters Yankee proved very drinkable, the RCH East Stream Cream a well remembered favourite and the Anglo Dutch Tabatha the Knackered an amusing name. Ray was not to happy with the comments made about the Poachers Monkey Hanger but it was not his fault the beer was rubbish.
All in all a very enjoyable little session with the bonus that the venue was so near the Garden Gate little time was lost in returning to normal Saturday service.
