PV managed to misread the Mengo posting and told FN the start was at the Tilly Shilling when more attention would have meant they would have joined the brothers at the Ham and Blackbird.

Comment | | Ali Grant was playing his farewell gig before trying his luck in the USA and had attracted a large, mainly female, crowd. The beer was not up to much but at least KOC's was clearer than ROC's.

Comment | | Hoping to catch site of the brothers going past, PV and FN initially settled outside only to be moved inside a staff member whose only job seemed to be deconstructing the outside seating areas. Inside you can immediately tell it is a J D Weatherspoon; typical decor and ephemera with the smell of cooking to the fore. But who cares, it sells real ale at a very reasonable price.

Having also visited the Alexandra, ROC and KOC turned up just as PV and FN were finishing their second beers. Leaving them to enjoy a beer PV and FN headed to the Alex to try it out.

Comment | | The manager was preparing for the pubs first beer festival but having worked for Shepherd Neame he was well versed in the requirements, including the production of a beer list which the brothers managed to get copies of. When PV and FN arrived they ordered a couple of the beers from the list which confused the manger for a moment until he realised where they got the details. Very friendly locals even though you got the impression they might be taking the piss out of the real ale visitors.
