It was a quiet night at The Mow with very few punters about. Most locals were watching the impatient drivers ignoring the red signal on the road work traffic lights. We just watched a bit of the Euro 2012 semi- final between Spain and Portugal.

Meanwhile, TM & KOC were visiting the GG to give Lyn her birthday present. They arrived in the middle of an interactive performance by the Pilgrim Morris Men. They left to the strains of ‘Bye Kevin’ and met up with the 3 Amigo’s at the Crown.

Again there were few punters so the landlady was keen for us to stay and bribed us with some cheesy snacks. Despite having the footie on TV it did not work – after finishing the one beer we left. Not that there was anything wrong with the welcome, the beer or the pub – we just had an appointment to keep.

To delay the inevitable we called in at the Cricketers. This pub was busy and despite the preponderance of sporty looking blokes having an after strain drink they had Midsomer Murders on the TV and not the footie – seems some old guy wanted to watch it.

The delay had been sufficient – the Pilgrim Morris were no longer performing outside although you did have to put up with a bit of their tuneless signing inside the pub. Apparently they perform for nothing more than a jug or two of beer and some sandwiches. Still seems expensive. Lyn’s birthday bash was still ongoing and one side of the busy pub was full of her guests. PV went for the guest beers and had to exchange his first Hook Norton as not up to scratch. The replacement was not a lot better and as for the Itchin Valley beer, well………..
