Comment | | On the KOC scale, the pub was quiet but then it is a large pub so it is easy to hide away out of sight. Ian, the White Lion landlord, scootered in for a half of Guinness and joined the bikers hanging around out front. It was good to see a mild on offer and it was duly tried.

Comment | | The barmaid did warn that it was the first Hobgoblin served today. It proved to be vinegar and was duly changed for the one alternative on offer. Although the pub was nearly empty the car park was nearly full. Well the pikeys need somewhere to park their pony and trap.

Comment | | With Quiz night in full swing we located outside. One of the Ember Inns ‘brew your own beer’ competition winners was on – Ringwood Sovereign Smuggler as entered by a regular from The Sovereigns in Woking. And very nice it was too. The Youngs was so cheap, TM thought he was back Up North.

Comment | | The landlord had returned for the A5 Scooter gathering in the back bar, one of whom admired our luminous jackets. Our talk revolved around DF and his quest for the number of sausages to order for Ann’s birthday bash on 31 July. Tricky, but it was agreed a multiple of three was needed. This week’s £2.50 offer to be avoided was Cottage Great Bear – particularly as it was vomit inducing when fresh.

Comment | | On arrival we were greeted by some tuneless whistling – the Morris Men were in town. Well it would not be the summer bike rides unless we came across them somewhere. But at the Garden Gate - it is really too much particularly as it prompted Derek to start dancing. It was, however, very nice to have both Cally behind the bar and a really good guest beer.
