KOC, TM, ROC, FN, PV and birthday boy GM
As it was GM’s 57th birthday we arranged to celebrate with him at The Ball & Wicket. KOC came armed with an extract of his diary from the time he and GM canoed down the Amazon and went on to travel around South America. The story included details of GM’s first meeting with Katya, lots of hotel prices and a shooting in Rio. Very interesting it all was as well.

Comment | | The pub was quite busy with a crowd watching England v Croatia on the TV. By the time we arrived England were already 2-0 up and well on top. Unfortunately the Bishop Sumner was not and the beers returned to the barmaid – it was her unlucky start to have Mengo visit on her first shift behind the bar. The manager was summoned and he readily changed the barrel. The fresh one on was the best Farnham beer we had tried. We stayed for a few by which time England had completed the 5-1 demolition of the team that had stopped them qualifying for Euro 2008.

Comment | | Just a few punters leaning on the bar. Not really surprising as the place absolutely stank. We adjourned to the restaurant end where the smell was not so bad. The Andwells Gold Muddler was disappointing – we have tried much better samples elsewhere – but the Hop Garden Gold was in fine form.
