Alton Winter Beer Festival

Alton College, GU34 2LX
Saturday 18 February 2012

The start of the 2012 Beer Festival season gave us a new venue if not a new festival. The new venue in the college cafeteria provided more space for both beers and punters and Peter and Ysanne made full use of the opportunity to increase beer selection and ticket numbers.

All the gang reconvened. Mengo were well represented and, of course, Jem & Satan were there. Mike was there along with some of his Carnival Crew – Mike was mainly sampling his own B&T beers.

Mengo were more interested in varying their choice and the beer list, although containing many old favourites, did provide enough to keep us happy. Of particular note were the beers supplied by Mike from Nottinghamshire and Wigan breweries. Another new brewer on the block was Project Venus – beers brewed by a collective of female brewers who ‘borrow’ a brewery to produce their own beers. The Venus Gold was very enjoyable but the outstanding taste of the day went to the Saltaire Triple Chocolate – but you only wanted a half.

A good venue with a good beer choice provided a very successful start to this years beer festivals and a happy Mengo headed off to the Railway Arms to complete their Alton experience.
