For a change this summer, it was a very pleasant evening and even TM seemed to enjoy the bike ride through the woods on the way from Wanborough Station to Wood Street Village.

| This gastro pub was busy with diners and the local cider drinker was not happy with the delay in being served. The barmaid was equally surly but eventually got round to pouring our drinks. They turned out to be the shortest pint measure we had ever received – a good inch below the rim. The first request for a top up resulted in the addition of more head and we gave up after the second request resulted in little more. | ||

As this was our first visit since the sad death of Tony, we were pleased to find they had maintained his traditions and little had changed. There is still a mild available at a good price included among the four guest beers. The first Wednesday of the month is still quiz night and we settled down with our usual team. Not that we contributed much in the way of answers and were particularly useless at identifying the shirt badges of the Euro 2012 football teams. Still we weren’t here for the quiz and were much better at our main purpose of drinking beer. For the dark side drinkers there was not only a really nice mild from Blakemere but also an excellent Salopian porter. The best beer was the May special from Church End – Brian, James and Vanessa. The only disappointment was the Cottage which lacked flavour. |
