The summer is winding down and it is getting dark before we even get
to the start pub at 8.30. Time for short rides and longtime friends.
KOC had telephoned Gary and he duly arrived. With Gary having
traveled abroad with (two of) the O’Connor brothers there was plenty
of reminiscing about bygone adventures and a good time was had by all.

A comfortable pub with a helpful but intransigent barmaid (with nice
Totally Indecent Top Showing), the only grip with the house was the
loud music center tuned to some local radio station, which made
conversation difficult. The pub is home to the Farnham Brewery and
here lies a small problem. You either like the beers or you don’t.
Whilst we all could drink the Bishops Sumner it was without
particular enjoyment. The William Cobbett reminded some of watered
down cough mixture and the Mike Hawthorn was so cloudy we declined to
drink it (the barmaid thought it was OK and declined to change it).
As Mengo we had hoped for some Mango but Christmas (Pudding) was here
already. More medicine but now black.

Brewer Beer % Price Mark Comment
Farnham Bishops Sumner 3.8 £2.40 3 Drinkable
Farnham William Cobbett 4.5 £2.50 2 Medicine
Farnham Mike Hawthorn 5.3 £2.60 0 Cloudy, would not risk it
Farnham Christmas Pudding 4.5 £2.60 1.5 Black medicine

It was quiet in the main bar but with such a large pub there could
have been many others elsewhere. The Wychwood Hobgoblin had just
finished which left us with the ubiquitous London Pride and Courage
Best, the local Farnham William Cobbett or the not so local
Caledonian XPA. Everyone went for the XPA. Enough said.

Brewer Beer % Price Mark Comment
Caledonian XPA 4.3 £2.70 3 Brewed with wheat malt
Farnham William Cobbett 4.5 £2.70 Not tried
Fuller’s London Pride 4.1 £2.70 Not tried

Then some of us went to the Garden Gate
