Cedars and Eight Bells Beer Festivals - 30th August 2008

CEDARS BEER FESTIVAL - Binsted, SU 772 410

Although PV had Emailed ROC mentioning this festival, he had not
bothered to do so until late on Friday as there was little chance the
rest of the Mengo Crew would be able to make it to Binsted.
So, after his walk with MV, he settled down to try a few of the
fifteen beers on offer; three of which were in the pub with the
remainder under the marquee in the large garden. Although billed as a
charity event, there was no surcharge and you merely bought the beers
at between £2.70 and £3.00 a pint depending upon strength.
Tim was now running the pub. Apparently Peter had become bored living
out in the sticks and had moved in with his brother, JP, at The Royal
Arms.
Nine of the beers came from three breweries; Bowman, Hogs Back and
Triple fff but the remainder were a more esoteric selection.
After PV had sampled five beers and was just about to leave, MV
thought she spotted KOC, ROC and RN arriving in a windowed van. Could
this be true? Indeed it was. KOC had just purchased a Citroen
Berlingo and, wanting to try it out, offered the others a lift to
Alton via Binsted.
All in all a nice little festival, made all the better by being on
one of the few glorious sunny days this summer.

EIGHT BELLS BEER FESTIVAL - Alton, SU 718 396

A quick trip through Holybourne in the KOC mobile and we were in the
second festival of the day. Phil had also provided a list of around
fifteen beers, all at a very reasonable £2.50 a pint. Surprisingly,
Phil had even produced a printed beer list this year that saved
having to write the choices down.
Most of the punters were in the rear courtyard but we remained inside
with a couple of lads who had cycled up from Lindford plus another
anorak from somewhere further afield.
After leisurely sampling a few beers we headed back to The Garden
Gate to meet up with the non-travelling members of Mengo, MG and PC,
and enjoy some IPA.
Altogether, a very pleasant day.
